Mumford & Sons
Mumford & Sons is a British folk-rock band formed in 2007. The members consist of Marcus Mumford, Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane. A unique taste of rock, their music is mixed in twangy banjos, acoustic guitar, and folk. Their one-of-a-kind music sparked their breakthrough back in 2009. Mumford’s album Babel won the 2013 Grammy for the Best Album, garnering much critical acclaim. Their live performances, lyrics, and songs brought a new kind of rock music to light.

The Allman Brothers Band
Duane and Greg Allman had no idea that their small band from Jacksonville, Florida would go this far, becoming one of the top live bands of the ‘70s! However, when they performed that famous 26-minute musical bliss that they call “Whipping Post” non-stop, the world knew that their music was here to stay. The band broke up a few times and reunited again over the course of five decades. They retired in 2014.

Elvis Presley
This is a man who doesn’t need any introduction. Widely known as “The King,” Elvis always conquered the stage, be it at his home country or abroad. Perhaps his most famous creation, “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” can be considered as one of the greatest love songs to have ever existed. From his first live show in Memphis back in 1954 to his last in Indianapolis, 1977, he made sure the magic of his music spread all over the world.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Jimi Hendrix wasn’t just a guitar legend or a top musician – he was an icon. Born at an age when racism was ruining America from the core, Hendrix stood up with his unique guitar playing style and incredible lyrics. Deemed as a “guitar god” by many, Jimi Hendrix and his band provided electrifying performances in their live shows. His untimely passing put an end to the band, but we will never forget their performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967!

Alice Cooper

Now 72 years of age, and he isn’t leaving that blessed stage anytime soon – still touring and making music, this man is an absolute legend. With a career spanning over five decades, Alice has caught the eye of music lovers with his theatrics on stage. He might not be the most popular artist out there anymore, but classics like “Poison” surely seal his name on any music enthusiast’s chart of best songs of all time.

David Bowie
David Bowie – the man, the myth, the legend. This is a human being that can own the stage and make the audience go all gaga with his stardust music and exquisite appearance. One of the most popular faces on earth, Bowie was always in the spotlight with his on and off stage actions. Songs like “Space Oddity” or his collaboration with Queen on “Under Pressure” would remain to be some of the best singles out there. He toured all over the world up until his passing in 2016.

The Beatles
Arguably the best band in the history of band music, The Beatles were a treat to listen to in concerts and musical gigs – few as they were. Pearl Jam
Nobody knew them back in the ’90s. A new, raw band with a weird name like Mookie Blaylock – who would’ve thought they would be famous! Fast forward 30 years, now Eddie Vedder and his bandmates, under the name Pearl Jam, sell out in almost every venue in the world. This band is known for the unique voice of its lead singer and the beautifully crafted lyrics. No wonder they are deemed as one of the most popular rock bands.

Guns N’ Roses
Their band name says it all – this is one rebellious group of people making music because they feel like it. The fluid nature of their guitar play and the lyrics that ooze of freedom made sure that the band wrote their name in the hall of fame of band music. Singles like “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “November Rain” are the reasons why they aren’t considered as just another heavy metal band – they are destined to reach for the stars! The band is still doing concerts in 2020.

Kiss
Here’s another rock band formed in the ‘70s and still roaming around the music industry, roaring with their existence. Kiss began their journey back in 1973, and following their groundbreaking success with the first live album, they never had to look back. This band is known for doing the unthinkable up on stage. From fire breathing to pyrotechnics, they did it all. Kiss is, without a single doubt, one of the most vibrant bands that ever played on stage.

Rush
Rush will go down as a ‘one of a kind’ band that took a detour from the typical songwriting about love and war and created a whole new lyric genre featuring philosophy, science, and fantasy. The band initially began as a blues-rock band, but with time, they took more of a progressive rock approach. Neil Peart, their drummer, is widely known as one of the best drummers to ever live. The band, after performing for nearly 40 years, finally came to an end in 2018 following Peart’s passing.

The Doors
The first thing that comes into our mind when we hear The Doors is Jim Morrison. Easily one of the best lead vocalists of all time, this highly talented musician, alongside his band members, took The Doors to glory in a very short span of time. Following Morrison’s untimely demise, the band was never the same. Songs like “Spanish Caravan” or “People are Strange” will always uphold The Doors as one of the greatest bands to have ever existed.

Neil Young
Hailing all the way from Canada, Neil Young is a singer-songwriter and musician who rose to fame during the ’60s. Despite the fact that this award-winning music tycoon is now 75 years old, Young is still very much listened to and loved by younger generations. Whether he’s playing with Crosby, Stills, and Nash or going completely solo, Young undeniably pours every bit of himself into any and every show he performs. In fact, many of his shows have concluded with a 20-minute rendition of “Like a Hurricane.”

Radiohead
Formed in 1985, Radiohead is an English rock band that consists of five members. The band first those to fame in the UK with the release of their second album, The Bends. It was the band’s third album, though, that brought them international fame in 1997. Since then, Radiohead has become a household name — so much so that they could perhaps be one of the only rock bands that’s able to leave almost every hit song out of the setlist yet still see fans leave the arena with a smile on their face.

Jack White
Born and raised in Michigan, Jack White is a 12-time Grammy Award winner and has been regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Although he’s best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the duo, The White Stripes, White has also enjoyed success with other bands as well as a solo artist. His presence on stage makes the crowd go wild and rightfully so — White’s performances are nothing short of amazing, with his unstoppable energy and natural-born talent.

Rage Against the Machine
Rage Against the Machine is a rock band from Los Angeles, California that was formed in 1991. Less than a year later, the band released their debut album, which reached commercial and critical success — and was even ranked on Rolling Stone‘s list of ‘The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.’ Since then, the band’s fame has only continued to grow. And although their shows are rare, Rage Against the Machine undeniably proves that there’s no other band truly like them.

My Morning Jacket
My Morning Jacket is a rock and roll psychedelic band that was formed in Louisville, Kentucky back in 1998. With a sound that’s rooted in rock and country, My Morning Jacket began to gather a following in the early 2000s partly due to their live performances. Not only do they capture fans with their own hits, but they also sprinkle every set with incredible covers including Rolling Stones’ “Waiting on a Friend” and Velvet Underground’s “Oh, Sweet Nuthin.'”

Wilco
Formed in 1994, Wilco is an American alternative rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. Although the band’s lineup changed quite frequently during its first decade, singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stiratt have been there since the original formation. Since early 2004, however, the lineup hasn’t changed and consists of Tweedy, Stirratt, guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, keyboard player Mikael Jorgensen, and drummer Glenn Kotche. An award-winning group, Wilco has been known to deliver some unforgettable concerts.

Alabama Shakes
An award-winning blues-rock band, Alabama Shakes was formed in Athens, Alabama in 2009. The group began its music career by touring and performing at clubs around the Southeast for about two years. The members used this time to hone their sound and write music. Before they knew it, the band was catapulted to fame, which isn’t much of a shocker. After all, each band member is filled with undeniable talent including frontwoman Brittany Howard — who is an absolute force of nature with a vocal ability that only continues to grow.

The Roots
You may recognize them for their time as the house band on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon from 2009 to 2014. That’s right — we’re referring to The Roots. An American hip-hop band formed in 1987, the group is known for their jazzy and electric approach to hip-hop. Unsurprisingly, The Roots’ work has consistently been met with critical acclaim. Now, if you’ve ever seen them play, even as Fallon’s house band, we’re sure you can agree.

Tom Waits
Now 71 years old, Tom Waits is one of America’s most brilliant singer-songwriters, not to mention a moving and hilarious storyteller. Although he worked primarily in jazz during the ’70s, Waits’ music since the ’80s has reflected a greater influence from blues, rock, experimental genres, and even vaudeville. Despite a lack of mainstream commercial success, there’s no doubt that Waits has influenced tons of musicians. With a huge international cult following, it’s no surprise that there have been several biographies written about him.

Dave Matthews Band
Let’s be real here, people, Dave Matthews Band is renowned for their live shows! Formed in 1991, DMB’s 1994 debut album — Under the Table and Dreaming — brought the band worldwide fame. Having sold more than 20 million concert tickets and a combined total of 38 million CDs and DVDs, DMB has no intentions of slowing down anytime soon. Two decades later and the award-winning group still knows how to keep their fans at the edge of their seats.

Phish
Known for their musical improvisation, extended jams, blending of genres, and dedicated fan base, Phish is an American rock band that was formed in Vermont during the early ’80s. After 15 years together, the band took a two-year hiatus in October 2000 before regrouping in late 2002. They then disbanded again in August 2004 before reuniting in March 2009, and have since remained together. All these years later and this jam band still knows how to put on an incredible show.

Leonard Cohen
There’s no denying that Leonard Cohen had quite an amazing career. What you may find surprising about this Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, though, is that he initially pursued a career as a poet and novelist during the ’50s and ’60s. It wasn’t until 1967 that he began his music career at the age of 33 — and it’s a good thing he did, otherwise, we would all have missed out. After all, Cohen’s performances were considered some of the best. Even after a 15-year hiatus, Cohen emerged to play a three-and-a-half-hour show that was absolutely captivating.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is an Australian rock band that was formed in Melbourne in 1983 by vocalist Nick Cave, multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey, and guitarist-vocalist Blixa Bargeld. And although vocalist Nick Cave may be the only consistent member of the Bad Seeds, the group’s 30-year run has completely dominated the world of post-punk music. Aside from releasing 17 studio albums and completing numerous international tours, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have become known for their outrageously wild shows.

Patti Smith
A Chicago native, Patti Smith is a singer-songwriter, musician, author, and poet. She rose to fame and even became an influential component of the New York City punk rock movement in 1975 thanks to her debut album, Horses. Nicknamed the “punk poet laureate,” Smith has been known to fuse rock and poetry in her work. Now 73 years old, it’s safe to say that Smith has found much success throughout the years. Not only has she been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but she has also been recognized for work as a writer.

Tame Impala
The psychedelic music project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker, Tame Impala has been making waves in the music industry since 2007. While Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project’s music in the recording studio, the touring act consists of Parker (guitar, vocals), Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesizer), Jay Watson (synthesizer, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass guitar, vocals), and Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals). If you haven’t given Tame Impala a listen, we suggest that you do — you won’t regret it.

Aerosmith
Aerosmith is a legendary heavy metal band that to this day remains in the hearts of many. The band was formed in Boston in 1970. Their blazing performances throughout the late ‘70s to the iconic ‘80s MTV rock and roll era have moved thousands. They played with the metal genre, incorporating blues, rock, and country, which was nothing short of brilliance. Aerosmith made it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. They are the best-selling American rock band of all time.

Iron Maiden
“I’ve got two tickets to Iron Maiden baby, come with me Friday, don’t say maybe.” Many people might be familiar with the infamous band Iron Maiden through these song lyrics by Wheatus. Iron Maiden is a British band formed in Leyton in 1975 and is considered to be one of the best heavy metal bands. The band originally consisted of Steve Harris, Paul Day, Dave Sullivan, Terry Rance, and Ron Mathews. The band is distinguished by its signature operatic vocals and powerful live performance. Iron Maiden is still active and still experiments with their music.

U2
U2 consists of four Irish musicians who started their journey believing in the American dream. The Irish band was formed in 1976 by Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. in Dublin. U2 has garnered international recognition and lives to be one of the best bands of today. Their live performances move people, to say the least. It’s hard to believe that the band was created in Larry’s kitchen when they were all in school. Every live performance by U2 at the Grammy’s is unforgettable.

Muse
Muse is a rock band from Teignmouth, Devon, formed in 1994. Their lyrics explore social alienation, hard choices, and other introspective themes. Their music also explores a much more diversified ground, although based on metal, such as mellotron, church organ, piano, and, of course, Bellamy’s falsetto. Muse has been voted as one of the best live performers time and time again by critics and music lovers alike. The Q Awards even nominated Muse for the Best Live Act award several times.

Bruce Springsteen
Bruce Federick Joseph Springsteen is an American singer and songwriter who has contributed invaluable songs to rock, starting from his ‘70s and ‘80s style of drama to his ‘50s-style soft-loud dynamic. Besides the hype around his socially and politically driven passionate songs, his live performances are also considered to be astounding. One such memorable performance was when he turned a poem by a steelworker into song with a touch of an Irish jig, Celtic strain, and Rock.

Metallica
Metallica is one of the greatest and most popular heavy metal bands in the world. The members include James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo. AC/DC
AC/DC was there with us during our teenage angst, and they are with us still now. The Australian rock band, formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973, gave us several reasons to love them. Their lyrics, live performances, tunes, appearances – all of it brought joy to millions. After all, they understood how it felt to be young and broken. They also gave us a distinct blueprint of an entirely new hard rock sound. They still remain as one of the top rock and roll bands to this day.

The Who
Formed in 1964 in London, the then members of The Who consisted of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon. Since its inception, it was one iconic song after another, though they had their fair share of struggles. The songs “Overture,” “Trick of the Light,” “Let’s See Action,” “Heaven and Hell,” and “I Can See for Miles” – to name a few – paved the way for modern rock. To state that their earlier live performances were loud would be an understatement, considering all the guitars destroyed on stage.

Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd was an English rock band formed in London in 1965. There’s hardly anybody who isn’t familiar with them, their music, magic, and mysteries. The members include Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright, who formed the group when they were mere students. The band has given us a different kind of rock, psychedelic pop tracks, and live performances, which left masses of people in awe. Even though they had to go through a lot, the band was in itself legendary.

Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin was, without a doubt, one of the greatest rock bands ever. Their concerts always blew people away with their explosive and dynamic live performances. They were formed in 1968 in London, with the members consisting of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham. They had varied styles, ranging from heavy metal and rock to blues and folk music. Their songs, especially “Stairway to Heaven,” bring forward a whole different kind of feeling to this day.

Queen
This British rock band was formed in 1970. Queen gave us “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Under Pressure,” “We Will Rock You,” and more. All of which are not just mere songs – they became a part of our identity, a moment, a feeling that will always signify who we are. Their music, styles, and performances during the ‘70s period were different from all other great bands. Any rock music enthusiast will agree that their 1985 Live Aid concert is the reason why Queen is now known as the global jukebox.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers is an alternative rock band formed in 1983, LA, California. Their album “Freaky Styley” was their first experimentation with a combination of punk and funk. Their experiments with funk-rock from then took the world by storm. Their live performances can be described with many words: colorful, soulful, dynamic, and energizing, but never boring. They have garnered critical acclaim all over the world and hold a special place in the hearts of their die-hard fans.
