It’s always great when our favorite sports players make a comeback. And it’s especially interesting when they do it in a different sport. Lamar Odom is back — not on the hardwood, but in the boxing ring. The former 2x-NBA champion has just signed a deal with Celebrity Boxing, which means the 41-year-old star will step into the ring on June 12 at Showboat Casino in Atlantic City.
Lamar Odom Is No Stranger to Fighting
After retiring from the NBA and making a failed attempt to return to basketball (plus briefly joining Ice Cube’s Big3 League), it’s clear that Lamar is looking for ways to revive his career in sport. Any sport. Following his divorce from Khloe Kardashian, the former NBA star has even said himself that things went downhill for him from that point on. He even had to literally fight for his life when he collapsed in a Nevada brothel six years ago. He spent months in the hospital where, for the most part, he was in a coma and on life support.
So, since he’s no stranger to fights, it seems he’s looking to branch out into boxing. Celebrity Boxing creator Damon Feldman hasn’t found an opponent for Lamar Odom yet, but he’s working on securing a “big-name celeb” for the occasion.
Lamar Turned His Attention to Pugilism
Lamar isn’t the only former pro sports player to seek a comeback through Celebrity Boxing. You probably remember basketball player Nate Robinson’s failed attempt to step in the ring. If you don’t and you’re his fan, that’s probably for the best. Odom isn’t the only star player on the card because Aaron Carter has also joined CB, and his opponent is yet to be determined.
The question remains, will the 6’10’’ former NBA talent manage to thrive in a different sport? Perhaps we’ll all get the answer to that come June 12th.
